Hi. I tried answering your practice exercise and found 3 which may not have the correct answer:
# 9.) Joan is five times as old as Josie. In three years, the sum of their ages will be 48. How old is Josie?
– Your answer is 35 but the correct answer should be 7. Josie is 7 years old but Joan is 35.
#11.) A tarpaulin 4 feet wide by 6 feet high is enlarged such that the new width is 12. What should be the height of the new poster to maintain the ratio?
– Your answer is 32 but the ratio of width to height is 1:1.5. So if the new width is 12 ft, the new height should be 18 ft to maintain the ratio.
#12.) In the figure below, what is the area of the shaded region if the dimensions of the rectangle are 2 by 8 centimetres?
– Your answer is 8 minus pi but I think your answer and the dimension of the rectangle is wrong. You cannot fit 2 circles side by side with 4 points of each circle touching the rectangle. If the width of the rectangle is 2 cm, the diameter of the circle must also be 2 cm and its radius must be 1cm. So the rectangle should only be 2 cm by 4 cm. And to get the area of the shaded region, it will be area of the rectangle minus area of the 2 circles or 8-2pi.

It’s correct. 480 – 30%(480) = 336.
